TY Expo 2016

12 September 2016

12th - 13th Sept, Punchestown Racecourse, Naas, Co. Kildare

TY EXPO aims to kick- start Transition Year on a positive and enthusiastic note, and places TY students, teachers and parents face- to- face with the people behind the many opportunities available to them.

Smart Futures will have a stand for students and parents to chat about future careers in STEM. They will also have three outstanding speakers leading discussions on their careers in STEM and the different options available to STEM graduates.

  • Monday 12th - Louise Nicholls, Vice President of Technology and Innovation at Brown Bag Films (makers of Doc McStuffins, The Octonauts, Granny O'Grimm and more) will be talking to students about what it’s like to work in the technology, with a creative and fast moving company.
  • Tuesday 13th - Phil Smyth, an award winning physicist and engineer that many students will know from RTE’s Insiders show will be talking about his work carrying out experiments on speeding roller-coasters and homemade go-karts – all in the name of science!
  • Speaking on both days is Niamh Kavanagh, a Research Physicist in the Irish Photonics Integration Centre (IPIC) at Tyndall National Institute in Cork. She is also this year's national winner of Famelab and will talk to students about what it’s like to work day-to-day as a scientist, her experiences of studying science at third level and help answer their study/career questions.
